WEDNESDAY fan groups say that the ball is now in Geoff Sheard's court as the consortium frontman bids to conclude a takeover of the Owls within days.
The Shareholders Assoc-iation and Wednesdayite both believe that a deal can be done with major shareholders quickly if Sheard comes up with the legal verification of funds for which he has been asked.

It follows Wednesdayite's agreement to sell their stake to Sheard, and his approaches to Dave Allen - with whom a deal has been lined up - Keith Addy and Geoff Hulley.

Shareholders Association chairman David Coupe said: "Clearly everyone is willing to sell. It's now up to Geoff Sheard to turn up with the goods and get the deal done as soon as possible. We don't want this hanging on any longer. We want it finished quickly to remove any uncertainty and get Sheffield Wednes-day moving forward.

"A path has also been cleared for any other potential investor."

Wednesdayite chairman Darryl Keys said: "The real crux of the matter for us is verification of funds, and I guess there are others who feel the same way. If that evidence is provided then the deal is there to be done. He has a perfect opportunity to conclude this."

Sheard said in the wake of the Wednesdayite decision: "This is a significant stage. We are now just days away. It's great that their members have voted to sell."

Wednesdayite's proceeds from a sale would amount to just over £1 million and would, under their own code, be donated to the club or community-linked causes. The group have said that the proceeds would be around three times the original offer made to them by Dave Allen in 2006 but the Owls former chairman has pointed out that he made a subsequent offer of £500,000.

Manager Brian Laws focused on tomorrow's kick-off against Burnley, said: "If anything happens with a takeover and it brings new investment to the club, then obviously that can only be good for the club.

"Until a deal has been done we carry on as we are."

Well said Brian Laws carry on as we are until it happens. You cannot fault the way our Brian has dealt with this whole situation totally focused on his job and the team. He has to be praised and if the takeover does go through and funds are avalable given the chance to prove how good he could really be. Now come on Mr Sheard it's over to you!!!!!!

Look what happened at Derby. A takeover by supposed wealthy yanks then they refuse to spend any cash. Sometimes these takeovers are all about making money not splashing it about. Look at Man city and Newcastle. Both clubs for sale at a profit. Mr Sheard could be representing another syndicate out to make lots of money so Owls fans BEWARE.

If Mr Sheard only wants 29.9% of the shares, and Dave Allen agreeing to sell his 10% almost a month ago, whilst Messrs Hulley and Addey agree to sell their colective 20% in principle 2 weeks ago, whats the hold up. Come on Geoff, get the cheque book out and lets get the show on the road.

Good job Wednesdayite had the sense not to accept Allens half million pound offer for their shares...Allen would have pocketed the extra half million himself, without the club benefiting.
You see- Wednesdayite always act in the club's interests.
You lot should eat humble pie.

Hope the wednesday boys get off to a flyer tomorrow, not sure about this Sheard guy, irrespective of the existing board/Allen/Wednesdayite etc saga potentially holding things up, i can't help thinking that if this guy was for real it would have happend by now, after all, this has been going on since January. If he does take over, imagine how long it would take him to buy a player! "He's going to sign in the next couple of days ......honest!"
